About SMS

Our Mission

Creating sustainability awareness and action through education, growing our own food, producing our own energy and conserving and sharing our resources.

Who We Are

We are South Maui citizens who are interested in getting our end of the island moving towards sustainable practices. A core group meets weekly and is looking for a few more people passionate about this idea.

With rising oil prices and the possibility that ships that bring supplies may not always be able to get here, it just makes sense to plan a smarter, healthier, more locally based sustainable lifestyle. We want to do this as a ‘local community’ so we aren’t driving all over the island to make this happen. We would encourage, support and share any knowledge with have with anyone that wants to do something like this on another part of the island, and we look forward to learning from you as well.

Anyone that wants to join us at any level, not just on the steering committee, but doing any number of things, please let us know you are interested and we’ll find the way to include you.

Steering Committee:
Kathy Becklin, Don Couch, Vivian Dames, Susan Douglas, Emily Goss, Stuart Karlan, Maury King, Chris Mentzel, Phyllis Robinson

Please join us and be part of something new and exciting that can really make a difference.
